However, with the encouragement of his amateur engineer-drawer father, he tried to create his own characters and forge his own style. From a paperboy he longed to become a cartoonist. Keith Haring penetrated the underground world of the metropolis. He succumbed to the fascination of New York, which he made the canvas for his art.
