Crackle medium is a speciality product that causes paint to crack, resulting in a finish that looks aged and distresses.

Paint the surface with acrylic paint. When the paint is dry, apply crackle medium. Apply a second coat of acrylic paint (use different color than before).The finish will crackle on its own as the paint begins to dry. Size and patterns of cracks depend on the thickness of the coats and the application technique.
