Charcoal XL Block by Derwent is a block of compressed charcoal that comes in six shades of black and gray.
It allows for free application of broad and expressive strokes, but also allows for control when adding fine details. It is an ideal art medium for working on a variety of formats, especially large ones. Experiment, break it into pieces, grind it into powder using a grater, or use a spray to create interesting textures and details.
Charcoal is naturally water-soluble, so it can be used dry and with the addition of water to change the texture and create interesting watercolor effects. The charcoal's water-soluble, soft texture provides smooth transitions when rubbed on. You can also draw with the edge of the charcoal, in which case the line will be narrower and clearer. When drawing a background or covering a large piece of work, draw with the entire width of the work. The versatility of the blocks allows you to use them on paper, canvas, ceramics, wood, fabrics, as well as many other porous surfaces. Each block contains a large amount of formula, equivalent to 8 pencils.
Unleash your imagination and create works of art with these innovative blocks!
