Conté à Paris Natural Charcoal is a classic drawing tool valued by artists for its lightness, natural structure, and ability to create a wide range of tonal effects. Made from carefully burned wood branches, it retains its characteristic porous structure and produces a deep, matte black.
Natural charcoal allows artists to create both delicate sketch lines and broad, soft areas of shadow. It is ideal for quick sketches, study drawings, portrait work, and developing compositions and tonal contrasts. Thanks to its soft structure, the pigment can be easily blended with fingers, a blending stump, or a cloth, allowing for smooth tonal transitions and subtle light effects.
It is particularly recommended for use on medium- or coarse-grain paper, which holds the pigment well. Natural charcoal can be easily corrected and lightened using a kneaded eraser. To preserve the finished artwork, the use of a fixative is recommended.
