Mixed cellulose-based papier mâché for artwork, white and lightweight, an ideal replacement for traditional paper pulp.

Mâché paper is an easy and eco-friendly technique that has been used by countless cultures over the centuries. From the manufacture of Chinese ceremonial and stage masks or dragons, to the production of Catholic statues. Made from papier mâché, tables, chairs and canopy beds, covered with imitation lacquer, mother-of-pearl and gold, carried the scent of Eastern exoticism to Europe until the mid-19th century. In architecture, it became accepted to create details, stucco and reliefs out of papier-mâché, the best example of which is the Art Nouveau intricate ceiling decoration at the Casa Vicens in Barcelona, by the pioneer of Catalan modernism Antonio Gaudi.

Art begins to take full advantage of this convenient technique as early as Surrealism (Jean Arp), and Pop Art appropriates it completely (starting with Olden Claes Oldenburg). Sculptures made of papier mâché adorn the largest museum collections and, thanks to fixation with epoxy resin, function in the urban spaces of the world's metropolises. The renaissance of the papier mâché technique is underway. It has great potential and is easy to work with for the artist or amateur. The papier mâché pulp we offer is very close for the original recipe and is a mixture of paper pulp, glue and plaster and all you need to do is add water to it in the right proportion.

Mix the papier mâché powder with water at a ratio of about 1:1 for a compact consistency and knead well until soft. You can then proceed to create lightweight 3D structures. It is ideal for shaping (then a hollow 3D structure) on objects like plastic bottles, used packaging, flower pots or balloons. By maintaining plasticity, it allows time for processing and refinement. A layer about 3 cm thick takes 24 hours to dry. A very large amount of paper pulp, for example, in a ball, hardens completely only after a few days, and then it can be sanded, sawed or scratched.

The finished, dried work can be surface painted, preferably with acrylic paints. After painting, it can be protected with varnish. Easy to use and lightweight, air-drying gives new possibilities of expression. At the same time it is preserved: the natural characteristics of paper such as its softness and two-dimensionality.
